MAANYI

Every lasting movement begins with a single seed.

For MAANYI, that seed was planted in 2024, when our Founder, Majorine, identified a critical gap in rural development in Zirobwe Sub-County, Luwero District, Uganda.

Where We Work

Luwero lies in Uganda’s Central Region, about 70 kilometers North of Kampala, and its fertile land has made it an agricultural heartland. It was also the centre of the 1981–1986 Luwero Triangle conflict, which displaced families and disrupted farms and schools. Decades on, the legacy of interrupted education and limited infrastructure remains.

Our home is Ndalike, a farming village in Zirobwe Sub-County with no vocational training centre, low levels of schooling and no electricity. Families cannot afford to send their children far away to learn a trade, and without power, local enterprise is held back.

Why We Began

Working alongside residents, our Founder saw women and young people who were determined to improve their lives but lacked the skills and resources to do so. Local farmers were working harder than ever against a changing climate, declining soil fertility and limited access to sustainable farming methods. She recognised that temporary handouts would never deliver lasting change. Real transformation requires practical skills, shared knowledge and genuine opportunity.

Guided by this conviction, she founded MAANYI to empower marginalised communities through hands-on skills training, sustainable agriculture and climate-resilient innovation. What began as a small effort to teach livelihood skills has grown into a thriving community development centre serving women, youth, local farmers and schools. Our work spans vocational training, regenerative agriculture, school gardens, environmental sustainability and community-driven innovation.

Our Next Step: A Training Centre in Ndalike

We are now establishing a vocational training Centre in Ndalike, offering tailoring and fashion design, carpentry, electrical installation, plumbing, mechanics, and crocheting and knitting. We already have the land and the equipment, supported by a tools grant from Tools with a Mission Uk. What we need now is classroom space and a reliable power source so training can begin and the Centre can run at full capacity.

Our Philosophy

We provide the tools, the training and the support. The communities provide the strength, the determination and the vision for their own development.

Together, we are building a future where marginalised communities thrive through newly acquired skills, environmental sustainability and real opportunity.
